Pitso Mosimane’s CAF Champions League ambitions have been dealt a major blow after it was confirmed that one of his star players tested positive for COVID-19.
Mosimane is stressing over the availability of star winger, Mahmoud Kahraba, who will undergo a second COVID-19 test on Saturday after his initial test came back positive- forcing him to miss Thursday’s training session.
Kahraba was already set to miss the game against Abou Qir Fertilizers SC in the quarter-finals of the Egyptian Cup due to suspension, but it is the Champions League final in which Mosimane was counting on his availability.
The 26-year-old has endured a torrid time at Al Ahly since joining from Portuguese Primeira Liga side Aves.
However, under Mosimane, the winger’s fortunes changed drastically. He has featured in all of the 56-year-old’s matches in charge, impressively scoring and providing an assist in Al Ahly’s last match of the Egyptian Premier League in a 3-1 win over El Gaish.
The club has announced that Kahraba is set to undergo a second test on Saturday to determine if he is available to train with the group in preparation for the final against Zamalek on November 27.
Meanwhile, Mosimane will be breathing a sigh of relief as midfielders Ayman Ashraf and Aliou Dieng participated in the team’s training session at El Tetsh Stadium on Thursday, after suffering knocks during the international break.
