Shock! Two Front Runners For Micho Revealed

With the South African football fraternity still waking up to news that Micho Sredojevic has resigned as Orlando Pirates coach, two high profile clubs are understood to have already made contact regarding his services.

The Buccaneers put out a statement at 10.30pm on Friday that their coach would be stepping down, the announcement coming out of nowhere and sending shockwaves on social media as Pirates also confirmed Rhulani Mokwena would take the reins in the interim. Sredojevic quit for “personal reasons”, reportedly news that his mother is gravely ill.

But just hours since, the Siya crew has been informed that Egyptian giants Zamalek and Wydad Casablanca, their counterparts from Morocco, have emerged as the two front runners to appoint Sredojevic in the coming weeks.

Reports that the coach has been hired as Zamalek coach were doing the rounds on social media on Saturday morning, with chairman Mortada Mansour claiming Sredojevic would lead the side even though he’d announced another Serbian, Aleksandar Stanojevic, as the head coach some three days ago.

As reported by Kingfut.com, Mansour said:“Micho was our first choice. Tarek Yehia (current interim manager) will be his assistant, Ayman Abdelaziz will be appointed as team coordinator, and Amir Mortada will continue in his role as director of football. Stanojevic will not take charge of Zamalek. It was a trick to find out who the club’s enemies are and I revealed them in front of everyone.”

A bit bizarre, but Mansour is one of the most eccentric football bosses around, and Wydad also appointed Zoran Manojlovic (also a Serbian) last month.

But the Siya crew understands that the now former Pirates coach, who has returned to Serbia to attend to his sick mother, will consider his options – among them offers from both Zamalek and Wydad. Several national teams are believed to have also approached Sredojevic almost immediately after he resigned.
