Thembinkosi Lorch’s Orlando Pirates record of last season could be at risk of being beaten by his teammate Tshegofatso Mabasa in the current term.
In what was a remarkable season for Lorch last season, after he also finished as the Absa Premiership's Footballer of the Season and Players' Player of the Season respectively, the attacking midfielder ended the campaign also as the top goal-scorer for Pirates with 15 goals in all competitions.
This season, the Bafana Bafana international only opened his account for his club last weekend with a superb goal against Stellenbosch FC in the Telkom Knockout Last 16 match.
On the other hand, Mabaso has been on an impressive scoring form for the Buccaneers in his first season with the club.
The 23-year-old forward, who was spotted by current Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp for Bloemfontein Celtic during the German tactician’s time with the Mangaung outfit, is already on four goals for the current campaign.
Rhulani Mokwena – the Pirates caretaker coach – will be happy if both players, as well as their teammates keep scoring goals as he attempts to improve the team’s results and position on the log going forward in the season.
