Lorch Transfer Talk: What Might Affect Bucs Star

Thembinkosi Lorch’s former coach and mentor Morena Ramoreboli feels that the reigning PSL’s Footballer of the Season and Absa Premiership Players’ Player of the Season should get an opportunity to make the move abroad later than this transfer window.

The attacking midfielder has been on the radar of a number of European clubs, including Belgian sides Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and Club Brugge, as well as two French Ligue 1 outfits – Dijon Football Côte d’Or and Toulouse FC.

However, as reported in the latest Soccer Laduma, issue 1137, Siya sources have indicated that due to the high demand in the Free State-born player, the price for his services has increased dramatically.

As indicated by sources, the Buccaneers are believed to have turned down a R30 million offer from Club Brugge for the 26-year-old.

“Pirates have rejected an offer from Club Brugge after the Belgian club showed seriousness in their interest in Thembinkosi Lorch. It is understood that Pirates want in the region of €1 800 000 (±R30 million) for the star player,” said the source.

“At 26, and with his current form, it would be a great time for the boy to leave for overseas, if he was to get his current club’s blessings before the close of the transfer window at the end of the month,” the source added.

Lorch’s contract with the Buccaneers will expire in June of 2020, according to the Siya crew’s records.

Speaking to the Siya crew, Ramoreboli said he hoped Lorch would be allowed to leave the Soweto giants to pursue his dream of playing abroad.

“I would say let the boy move now while he still has age on his side. It shouldn’t be a situation of a player like Siphiwe Tshabalala – the player who went overseas at a very late age. That’s my opinion,” said Ramoreboli.

The former Maluti FET College coach is concerned that failure to make the move now now might affect his performance and form.

“This is the right time for him to move. Looking at how he performed last season, honestly speaking, I think this is the right moment for him as that would also improve his game. Being Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season shows that he has done well in the country. Not giving him the opportunity to move now might affect his game. It could become more psychological for him, the way I think about it. He needs to get an opportunity to move and that would create more opportunities for him as a player,” he concluded.
