Thabang Monare would become Orlando Pirates’ most expensive midfielder if he ends up joining the Bucs.
The Siya crew reported this week that Pirates have made enquiries in to the availability of Monare, eyeing the possibility of landing his services now that Bidvest Wits’ top-flight status has been sold.
Monare is rated as one of the top midfielders in the Premier Soccer League and was previously eyed up by Mamelodi Sundowns, SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs.
However, he recently assured his commitment to Wits by agreeing to a new two-year deal in principle with the Students, but now circumstances have completely changed.
Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila confirmed that they have purchased the top-flight status of Wits along with all the players, although Monare has made the list of players who are heavily linked with completing a move elsewhere before the club relocates.
With Pirates the latest to show interest in Monare, how does the 30-year-old’s value compare to what they already have in their midfield department?
According to the values on transfermarkt.com, Monare’s market value is currently at €725 000 (±R13.8m), more than any player in the Bucs’ midfield, including Fortune Makaringe and Siphesihle Ndlovu.
Currently, the most expensive midfielder is Makaringe, who is valued at €675 000 (±R12.9m).
