Highly-rated Orlando Pirates defender Thembela Sikhakhane will return to the Soweto giants on the expiry of his loan deal with AmaZulu at the end of the campaign as confirmed by his agent.
The 2019/20 season saw the right back enjoy his third successive loan stint with Usuthu, after not forming part of Milutin Sredojevic’s plans at the beginning of the season.
Since being signed by Pirates from Golden Arrows in 2016, the Ulundi-born star spent only one season with the Soweto giants, spending the rest on loan with Amazulu.
The Siya crew previously revealed that the KZN outfit had been so impressed with Sikhakhane that they were keen to make his stay permanent, however they haven’t been able to do that.
The player’s agent Mike Makaab from Prosport international confirmed to the Siya crew that the player will be returning to Pirates at the end of the season.
“He will return to Pirates, his still has another year to run,” Makaab told the Siya crew.
Josef Zinnbauer’s preferred right back option this season has been Abel Mabaso, although Pirates also have the likes of Thabiso Monyane and Mthokozisi Dube as options in the right back slot.
Sikhakhane’s existing deal with the Buccaneers runs until June 2021, and it remains to be seen whether they will retain him next season or send him out on loan for the fourth time.
