Steve 'Chippa' Lekoelea has issued a warning to Orlando Pirates ahead of their CAF Champions League preliminary round match this weekend.
The Buccaneers will go to their match at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday night needing nothing less than a victory against Green Eagles for a chance to advance in the competition, after losing the first leg match 1-0 in Zambia two weeks ago.
Bucs have been struggling with form lately, after failing to win in their last four matches. Speaking to the Siya crew, former Pirates star midfielder Steve Lekoelea warned the Buccaneers to be careful in their approach in search of goals against Eagles.
“The Zambian team will come here knowing for sure that a draw will be enough for them to go through and that’s exactly what they will try for. Their game plan will be to try and catch Pirates on counter-attacks as they know that Pirates need goals to win and will be on an all-out attack throughout the game,” said Lekoelea.
“My advice to Pirates would be to say they shouldn’t focus on attack only. African teams like the CAF competitions very much and they take them seriously. Those competitions to them are like the World Cup and Pirates should be cautious. Pirates should also focus on the defence in their preparation for the match as that the team will want to hit them on counter-attacks. I wish Pirates everything of the best, I hope they win. I want them to win,” Chippa added.
