Pirates Then & Now: They Used To Be Invincible

Orlando Pirates’ opponents for their upcoming league match, Stellenbosch FC, believe they have identified Bucs' areas of exploitation that can be used to their advantage, and plan to upset the Soweto giants in Cape Town on Saturday.

Although the Mother City outfit lost to the Buccaneers in the Telkom Knockout last weekend, the team's head coach Steve Barker still believes that the current Pirates team could be beaten with the right approach.

“In years past there were teams that were…almost felt invincible…you couldn’t get anything from them. But I think they are a team that if you play well and you do create and take your chances...we can put them under enough pressure to win the game,” said Barker, speaking to the media this week.

“So, yes, there is still pressure (for Pirates), and you know that they aren’t in a comfortable position in the league for their ambitions as the club. We’re not in the most comfortable position either. So, it’s a game that both teams want to win desperately,” the coach added.

Prior to the loss to Bucs, Stellenbosch showed improvement in results and form – drawing two and winning one from their last three Absa Premiership matches.
