In-Form Striker Targets Pirates

Fresh from scoring in the match on the weekend, an in-form striker is targeting Orlando Pirates in the next fixture as his in-form team is looking at maintaining their unbeaten record.

In the 2-2 draw against AmaZulu at the Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday, Ashley Du Preez was the scorer of the second goal for Stellenbosch FC as the Western Cape outfit maintained their unbeaten run after 11 games.

With Steve Barker’s side set to welcome Pirates at the same venue on Wednesday, a lot will be expected from Du Preez who has been one of the top performers for the team with five goals to his name and two assists.

Speaking about the massive improvement of Stellies this season, the 24-year-old attacker says he would be happy if they keep their good run as a team against the Buccaneers who have been inconsistent so far in their campaign.

“I think last season was a huge learning process for us as a team. With the unbeaten run, we’re doing a lot of things right where we concede less goals and score more goals and our will to win matches is one of the key aspects this season. Like I said in the beginning, it was a process where we learned and this season, we are well balanced in front and at the back as a team. But we are not surprised, and we are glad that the things that we are working on in training fall into place coming into the match. We are more positive, our hard work, resilience, team spirit and the will to win is working for us as a team where we lacked at these things last season,” said Du Preez, speaking through Stellenbosch’s media department.

“I think it’s going to be another important game because they will come out strongly to win the game. But for us as a team, our resilience our will to win and the hunger needs to be more coming this Wednesday. I will be so happy if we as a team can get all three points against Pirates. Our team target this season is to get to 30 points as soon as possible and after that we will re-assess,” the talented player added.

In other news, Stellenbosch have hinted that they could welcome back former Buccaneer Robyn Johannes against his old club as the experienced defender has made progress on his recovery from injury.
