Rulani Mokwena – the Orlando Pirates' caretaker coach – has a message for the club’s supporters after the team's loss at the weekend.
Pirates suffered their third loss of the season in the league on Saturday, against Stellenbosch FC in Cape Town.
The team is 10th on the log with just two wins from eight matches, and according to Mokwena, the supporters understand the club's situation.
“We love our supporters and they love us. Orlando Pirates supporters are people that understand football. They see the way the team plays and, of course, there’s no comments section on the log table. No one wants to know how well you’re playing football,” Mokwena told the media.
“In my opinion we’re playing very good football – probably some of the best football in the league week in and week out, we are very consistent on that. We find ourselves in the position that we should not be in. All the supporters that I speak to understand football and they understand where the team is. They understand why the team is in the position that it is in. When you are supported by people (who) understand the game, it’s easier for you to sit in a position where you take the responsibility and you try to make sure that you do the best that you can to turn things around,” the coach said.
