‘Underperforming’ Pirates - Mokwena’s Promise To The Fans

Rhulani Mokwena has issued a promise to the Orlando Pirates supporters, stating that they will double their efforts.

Following their impressive 3-1 win over Bloemfontein Celtic in the opening match of the new Absa Premiership season, the Buccaneers went on to lose back-to-back matches against Zambian side Green Eagles in the CAF Champions League, and against SuperSport United in the league.

With the Soweto giants finalising their preparations for Saturday’s MTN8 quarter-final match against Highlands Park, Mokwena has admitted that Bucs ‘underperformed’ in their last two matches.

“There is no running away from the fact that we have underperformed in the last two matches we have played,” the Pirates assistant coach told Pirates’ official website.

“As I said following our defeat (to SuperSport United), our supporters deserve better from a team like ours and for that reason we have to double our efforts to ensure we get a favourable result on Saturday,” he added.

“Obviously it won’t be easy because Highlands Park are a tough side. This is a hard-running team with players who can influence the match single-handedly. We will give the opposition the respect they deserve, but having said that, we will also give our all to secure a victory,” concluded the coach.
