Orlando Pirates pulled out of the race for Gavin Hunt’s signature on Tuesday, paving the way for the serial winning coach to be appointed by their rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

The Siya crew has it on good authority that the Buccaneers were in the race for the highly-rated mentor’s signature until earlier this week, having revealed that there were shock talks between the 56-year-old and Pirates this month.
Even with Jozef Zinnbauer still contracted to the Soweto giants for another three years, it’s believed an opportunity to acquire the services of Hunt, a four-times league title winner, was too good to pass and the German would have been given the boot… had Hunt agreed terms.
According to Siya sources close the Bucs camp, the club decided to pull out of the race on Tuesday, with sources indicating that it was due to a financial reason.

Hunt is among the highest paid coaches in the Premier Soccer League and indications are it would have forced Pirates to dig deep in their coffers, while also agree on a financial settlement with Zinnbauer.
It means Zinnbauer dodged a swinging axe!
Amakhosi have since announced Hunt as their new coach on a three-year contract, and there is no doubt they would have had to pay top dollar to get him to put pen to paper.
