On this day in 2014, Oupa ‘Ace’ Manyisa was rewarded with the chairman’s award at Orlando Pirates after playing a whopping 51 matches out of 53 during the 2013/14 season – a feat he is yet to achieve again in his career.
The midfielder jointly received the award with the late former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, who had also played the same number of matches for the Buccaneers.

Following the impressive season for Manyisa, the midfielder was also named Pirates’ Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season respectively as he pocketed a total of R200 000 in prize money.
“Playing 51 games is easy when you remain focussed & work hard. I want to thank my team for letting me do my thing. The highlight of my season was definitely the Champions' League final. We really wanted it badly,” in part, Manyisa said at the time.
