Orlando Pirates’ Augustine Mulenga scored as the Buccaneers played a 1-1 draw against Tanzanian giants Simba SC.
The friendly match on Tuesday afternoon was played at the Rand Stadium in Johannesburg. Zambian midfielder Clatous Chama, who had been reported to be a target for Kaizer Chiefs, scored the goal for the Tanzanian champions.
The friendly match was used for coach Milutin Sredojevic’s side to finalise preparations for the new season, following the team’s impressive 2-0 win over Chiefs in the Soweto Derby on Saturday, as well as the 2-2 draw against Polokwane City on Sunday.
“Mchezo wa kirafiki dhidi ya Orlando Pirates umeisha kwa sare ya goli 1-1 [The friendly against Orlando Pirates ended in a 1-1 draw],” the Tanzanian club confirmed.
Meanwhile, the club’s Belgian coach Patrick Aussems showered the Buccaneers with praise for their preparations for the new season.
“We finished camp with Orlando Pirates who are better than us [time spent preparing for the new season] but we have played well. I would like to congratulate my players. We can say this camp has been very good and I am satisfied,” said the coach on the club’s social media channels.
The Buccaneers will get their Absa Premiership campaign underway with a match against Bloemfontein Celtic at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
