Orlando Pirates were part of a global online tournament this week in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, but weren’t able to make it past their Swiss opposition.
The Buccaneers were selected as part of the huge Ultimate Quaranteam tournament that was set up by English side, Leyton Orient, and got things underway against Swiss club, FC Sion, this week in the first round of the competition.
Former Bidvest Wits striker turned professional gamer, Muhammad Patel, represented Pirates from Johannesburg earlier this week, but was beaten 4-2 by his counterpart from Europe despite a double from Tshegofatso Mabasa.
Patel’s side took an early lead inside the first seven minutes, but were pegged back to 1-1 before halftime, and Joris Delle saved an early second half penalty before Mabasa doubled his tally in the 58th minute only to be level again in the 63rd.
A late double broke Pirates’ hearts though, and Patel was unfortunately knocked out as South Africa’s representation in the esports tournament came to an end.
