Pule On Bucs' CAF Draw & New Teammates
Orlando Pirates now know who stands in their way as they go in search of a spot in the CAF Champions League group stages, and Vincent Pule knows they have to be better…
The Buccaneers returned to CCL football last season after an absence of a few years, however were knocked out in the group stages after winning just one out of their six games against the likes of Esperance de Tunis, Horoya and FC Platinum.
Now, with the club having bolstered their side substantially over the last couple of months, Pule believes that they have what it takes to make it out of the groups and progress further in Africa’s top-tier inter-club competition.
Speaking at the launch of Pirates’ new jersey, which was inspired by their CAF success in the 1990s, the attacker said, “Yeah, we’re looking forward to playing in the tournament again – it’s been great for us. Last season we were out in the group stages, and this season we have to do better. We have to play better football when we go away, and need to win our home games – I think that’s where we lacked last season.
‘We’ve signed good players, they will come in handy both away and at home, and, like I say, I think they’re good players.”
The former Bidvest Wits man, however, wouldn’t be drawn into giving himself any personal goals, other than just self-improvement, as he said, “I just have to improve, and get better, every season. For me, I don’t want to put myself under pressure, but I just have to do better than last season.”
Pirates will face Green Eagles of Zambia in the first leg away from home between August 9-11, with the second leg taking place between 23-25 of August.
