Pirates Set For Further Boost With Returning Stars?

After seeing some of their star players return from injuries before the end of last year, Orlando Pirates could be set to see more players coming back when the season resumes after the Africa Cup of Nations that is underway in Cameroon.

Having experienced difficulties in selecting matchday squads and line-ups in the first round of the season due to unavailability of some of the key players owing to injuries, Pirates co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids were relieved to have some of the club's stars return, including Thembinkosi Lorch, Innocent Maela and Zakhele Lepasa who had their fair share of injury troubles this season.

As the Buccaneers will be aiming to continue from where they left off when they finished the year after winning two consecutive matches against Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu, the technical team could be boosted with the return of experienced goalkeeper Richard Ofori who is said to have made progress in his recovery.

Sources close to Bucs have confirmed that the 28-year-old former Maritzburg United shot-stopper is close to making a return after a long lay-off which saw him miss matches since August.

The Black Stars keeper, who missed out on the Afcon due to injury, played in Bucs’ first two DStv Premiership matches against Stellenbosch FC and Marumo Gallants, as well as against Swallows FC in the MTN8 before he was ruled out of action after suffering an injury while on national duty against Bafana Bafana in September.

In his absence, Siyabonga Mpontshane has been the first-choice keeper and with Wayne Sandilands deputising for him since the latter returned from injury.
