News reaching the Siya crew is that the Soweto giants are set to elevate Wayne Sandilands to a new role as the club’s goalkeeper coach to mark his retirement as a professional footballer.
Earlier this week, the Buccaneers confirmed that the veteran goalkeeper’s playing contract which is set to come to an end on June 30 will not be renewed.
The club did confirm, however, that talks have been ongoing for the 38-year-old regarding another role in the team.
“Sandilands’ contract comes to an end on June 30 and will not be renewed, however, the club is currently in discussions with management regarding another role at the club,” Pirates confirmed on the club’s official website.

Indications are that the former Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper is likely to replace Woudenberg in what will be a new-look technical team for Bucs.
Sandilands was one of the notable goalkeeping figures in Mzansi who recently participated in the FIFA Ggoalkeeper Coaching course held in Johannesburg recently as part of his preparation for the new role.
The Benoni-born star finished the 2021/22 season without a single appearance under Mandla Ncikazi and Davids.
Meanwhile, SuperSport United and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams remains a target for Bucs as confirmed by close sources and still strongly linked with a move to the club, as reported by the Siya crew.
