Pirates To Pounce On International Striker?

Orlando Pirates could pounce on a Burkina Faso international, who is linked with an exit from his current club.

For some time now, the Buccaneers have been linked with highly-rated Burkina Faso striker, Songne Yacouba, who has since been unsettled at his Ghanaian club, Asante Kotoko in the past few months.

Reports emerged from Ghana last year that the 29-year-old forward refused to return to Kotoko for pre-season, after he had been strongly linked with the Soweto giants, however, the West African outfit managed to hold onto the player for the current campaign.

New information emerging from Ghana is that the Ghanaian giants have conceded to potentially losing the player in the comings weeks, after the club confirmed that they cannot meet his salary demands.

According to reports, the forward has demanded in the region of $150 000 (+/-R2 183 310) annual package from the club in his next contract.

The player’s current deal is set to expire at the end of February.

The club's Executive Chairman, Kwame Kyei, has reportedly confirmed that Kotoko is not in a position to meet Yacouba’s salary demands.

“Dr Kwame Kyei says his outfit are not capable of meeting Songne Yacouba’s contract renewal demands because it is way and above what they can afford. Yacouba is demanding a yearly salary of $150,000 before signing a new deal with the Porcupine Warriors,” ghanasoccernet.com reports.

Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman has been quoted by the publication as saying, “AsanteKotoko SC can't pay Songne Yacouba the $150,000 he is demanding from club to renew his contract. Yacouba will leave the club after his contract expires.”

Pirates do still have one foreign space available, should the club still be keen on signing Yacouba, with the Soweto giants having French goalkeeper Joris Delle, as well as the Zambian trio of Augustine Mulenga, Justin Shonga and Austin Muwowo, as the four players registered as foreigners in Bucs' 2019/20 season squad.
