Orlando Pirates’ supporters structures have aired their grievances with the club’s Chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza.
The club’s supporters structures have been hard at work in recent times, after they partnered with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in last week’s picket to the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture for the return of supporters to stadiums.
In addition, the Orlando Pirates Gauteng Provincial Supporters structure have taken the time to deal with the issues pertaining their own club, requesting for their structures to be recognized by the country’s various football authorities and more importantly with Pirates’ head honcho.
“We are looking for supporters structures to be recognized by SAFA, by the PSL and most importantly, club bosses,” Mpho Leeu, the Orlando Pirates Gauteng Provincial Supporters structure public relations officer told the Siya crew.
“They don’t recognize us, and I am talking specifically about Pirates. The office of Dr Irvin Khoza doesn’t recognize supporters structure. We have supporters structures that we took [the] initiative to set up. As you know, we have branches, our foot soldiers, we formed regional, provincial and we were in the process of forming national structures but unfortunately COVID-19 brought everything to a halt.”
Leeu says the supporters structure managed to meet with the Iron Duke in 2019, but the meeting yielded no results as they were left with more questions than answers after the meet.
“Before COVID, we tried to get to Dr Khoza’s office, we struggled to even secure a meeting with him, but luckily in October 2019, he agreed to meet the Gauteng branch and we aired our grievances to say we are crying about branches that are not recognized as well as the membership. We are recruiting members in the branches, but they do not even get cards,” she added.
