Bucs Closing In On Another Top Signing?

Orlando Pirates are believed to have plans of adding another signing to the current squad, with indications that the club could be closing in on a striker from Burkina Faso.

During the second half of the 2018/19 season and towards the end of the campaign, the Buccaneers had been strongly linked with striker Yacouba Songne, who is currently on the books of Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko.

Media reports in Ghana in April suggested that the Soweto giants might have signed the forward on a pre-contract.

However, the reports were later dismissed by the player’s agent, who reportedly told the media in Ghana that the 27-year-old player had been focused on recovering from the injury he had.

The agent, however, did not rule out a potential move away from the Ghanaian club for the player.

In May, it was further reported in Ghana that Bucs reportedly apologised to Kotoko for their pursuit of Songne. Kotoko’s Communications Director, Lawyer Sarfo Duku, was quoted in the media in Ghana saying that Pirates wrote to the Ghanaian club to apologise for allegedly contacting the player without their consent.

After adding Zambian winger Austin Muwowo to their roster for the 2019/20 season, and with striker Justin Shonga reportedly attracting interest from abroad, indications are that the Buccaneers could still look to strengthen their squad with Songne during this transfer window.

As reported, Pirates are believed to have received a multimillion-rand offer for Shonga from Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
