Bucs Star Leaves For Club Abroad

Orlando Pirates’ Marshall Munetsi is leaving the Soweto giants after agreeing to a move abroad.

As reported by the Siya crew, Munetsi has been heavily linked with a move to Europe in the past few weeks, having attracted interest from various clubs abroad after his progress at Pirates under coach Milutin Sredojevic and his technical team.

Having been linked with a move to clubs in France and Belgium in recent weeks, it has now been confirmed that French top-flight side Stade de Reims have won the race for the player’s signature.

The defender-cum-midfielder becomes the second player from Pirates to secure a move to France this year, following Lyle Foster’s move to AS Monaco in January.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club can officially confirm the transfer of Marshall Munetsi to Stade de Reims,” Pirates confirmed on the club’s official website.

“With this move the Zimbabwean international becomes the second Pirates player this season to move overseas following Lyle Foster’s transfer to Monaco earlier this year,” confirmed the Soweto giants.

The 22-year-old was signed by Pirates in 2016 from FC Cape Town, who were campaigning in the National First Division at the time, before their status was sold to the club now known as Ubuntu Cape Town.

The Zimbabwean had a loan stint with Baroka FC before he got his chance to fight for his place at the star-studded Bucs side.

Munetsi made 14 league starts for the Buccaneers during the 2018/19 season. The player is currently with the Zimbabwe senior national team, preparing for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament set to take place in Egypt.
