Orlando Pirates have been lambasted for their omission of Gabadinho Mhango from the team’s line-ups and matchday squads this season, following the Malawian international’s inspiring performance at the Africa Cup of Nations.
As Malawi defeated Zimbabwe 2-1 in Bafoussam in Cameroon last Friday, Mhango was in scintillating form as he netted both goals for the Flames in their Group B clash.

In the Buccaneers’ 2021/22 DStv Premiership campaign, Mhango has made only four appearances and equalling just 132 minutes of football after being disrupted by his much-publicized off -field issues earlier in the season.
“Gabadinho Mhango has always been a star and I don’t know why he hasn’t been playing at Orlando Pirates. I tend to argue a lot with people who disagree with me when I tell them that Mhango is one of the best forwards that we have in the league,” footballer-turned-analyst Junior Khanye told the Siya crew.

“When you bring an international player to the PSL, this is the kind of quality that you should bring, a player like Mhango. He’s got balance and he can kick with both feet. He is talented, skilful and has got a big heart. He can play as a false number nine, and he can also play as a striker. He can play on the left and on the right, as well as a centre forward, everywhere in that forward line. The boy is playing at a big stage at the moment with the big guns at Afcon but with Pirates in the DStv Premiership he is not playing and that’s so disappointing and it doesn’t make sense,” added Khanye.
