He was linked with a number of clubs overseas, however no move materialised during the January window for Justin Shonga.
Indications are that Shonga could be still be heading out of the Orlando Pirates camp if his situation regarding game time this season remains unchanged, with talk of a possible Absa Premiership switch.
Shonga’s 2019/20 season has been disappointing, due to a lack of enough game time, with the Zambian international having made only four starts in all competitions thus far.
According to sources, and as reported in edition 1166 of Soccer Laduma, the 23-year-old forward is said to have attracted interest from Maritzburg United.
“Maritzburg are showing interest in Justin Shonga from Pirates. The player’s name has been mentioned, and he could be one of the options for Maritzburg for next season. All the decisions will be made at the end of the season,” said the source.
Shonga has been a notable exclusion from coach Josef Zinnbauer’s match-day squads in the matches leading up to the PSL break due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
In recent times, Shonga had been linked with clubs in Turkey, Russia and Azerbaijan, among other countries. He is one of the players that the Buccaneers are expected to make a decision on, whether to send him out on loan, or sell him at the end of the season.
