Pirates’ Big Plans For Star Midfielder…

Orlando Pirates appear to have big plans for the team’s midfield star Ben Motshwari, with the club believed to be considering offering the player a new long-term deal.

Unlike his former Bidvest Wits teammate Xola Mlambo, who has been linked with an exit from Pirates due to his lack of regular game-time, Motshwari appears to be in line for an extended stay with the Soweto giants.

The central midfielder is one of the first names included in coach Josef Zinnbauer’s Pirates team sheets, and the 28-year-old is expected to be at the club beyond 2021, as reported in edition 1162 of Soccer Laduma.

Prior to his ankle injury, which has seen him miss the team’s last two matches against Bidvest Wits and Black Leopards respectively, Motshwari had started in all of the fixtures since Zinnbauer’s arrival in December.

Bucs have not lost a single game under Zinnbauer, with the Randfontein-born player in the heart of the team’s midfield.

Following the player’s rich vein of form, the Siya crew has been informed that Pirates plan to keep him on an extended contract.

Motshwari will see his contract at Pirates expire next year, though the club does have a two-year option in place to extend his spell further, which is expected to be activated.

“Ben is on a good and long-term contract with Pirates. He is good there and there are no issues. It (Motshwari’s deal) was a three-year contract plus an option of two years to extend. That’s why I say he is on a long-term contract. The club is likely to take up the option. How can one let go of such a talent and an asset?” a source told the Siya crew.
