Having failed to make a single appearance this season, Siyabonga Mpontshane is amongst seven players who may be forced to look elsewhere should their game-time drought continue at Orlando Pirates.
The last time Mpontshane featured for the Buccaneers was over a year ago when he came on as a substitute in their goalless draw against Mamelodi Sundowns on 1 April 2019.
Having been a regular under Milutin Sredojevic, Mpontshane’s fortunes took a turn for the worst under both Rulani Mokwena and Josef Zinnbauer.
Since then, the former Platinum Stars goalkeeper has failed to kick a ball for Pirates with fellow veteran Wayne Sandilands being Josef Zinnbauer’s preferred first choice, while Joris Delle has been second choice for the Soweto giants.
While he has maintained his athleticism and agility at 34, the goalkeeper will be looking to get as much game-time as he possibly can to enjoy the last few years of his career.
There has been no talk from Pirates about a possible exit for Mpontshane, however the keeper could be forced to follow in the footsteps of Jackson Mabokgwane who was in a similar situation last season, but has gone on to make the Bloemfontein Celtic number one jersey his own.
