Words of encouragement have been offered to Orlando Pirates while the club has also been advised on how to rise again after the team’s disappointing loss in the CAF Confederation Cup final against Moroccan outfit RS Berkane in Nigeria on Friday night.
The Buccaneers will be back in action on Tuesday evening albeit in the DStv Premiership against Maritzburg United.

Former Pirates striker James Mothibi says Bucs need to add firepower upfront for the team to be stronger going forward.
“We are sad because we didn’t win the cup. The Pirates chairman always told us that the club isn’t for second place but for first prize. He always said that no one remembers the runners-up, but people always remember the champions. I watched the game from the first minute up until the last minute of extra time. Unfortunately, I couldn’t watch the penalties because there was loadshedding where I am staying. We played well in the first half, but I thought we were not clinical in front of goals,” said Mothibi.

“We need a finisher, and I won’t say we need a striker because a striker can be there with a name, but we need someone who can finish. For example, Lesley Manyathela was a finisher because of Jimmy Kauleza. Mbesuma was a finisher because of David Radebe. At Orlando Pirates, we don’t have those similar combinations. If (Deon) Hotto doesn’t score, no one scores (in some games). As Pirates coaches and players return to the league to try and make sure that we go to Africa again, they should know that when building up they should know when to change gears from the middle to up front. For a team to play more quicker, you need to minimise your passes in midfield and even from defence. Up front, it is where you can catch opponents with counter attacks. I did not see that kind of play from Pirates as their build-ups from the back were slow,” he said.
