An Orlando Pirates defender has emerged as a transfer target for AmaZulu, who are keen to strengthen the team in fear of the relegation axe that is hovering over their heads.
Having been released from Highlands Park, where he spent the first half of the season on loan from Pirates, Brian Hlongwa will expect to hear from the Soweto giants in the coming days regarding his future.

The centre-back’s stint with the Lions of the North was unsuccessful, after failing to make a single appearance in coach Owen da Gama’s team.
AmaZulu are believed to be keen on adding the 23-year-old to Slovakian coach Jozef Vukusic’s team, as part of the attempts to fight against the dreaded relegation axe, as reported in edition 1157 of Soccer Laduma.

“Brian Hlongwa was unsettled at Highlands Park due to his lack of game-time and he was keen on making a move. The boy is wanted by other clubs who are keen to use his services. AmaZulu is one of the clubs keen on the player,” said the source, while also adding that a move for the player would be permissible despite earlier concerns that he cannot join another club this season.
“There’s been talk that he can’t leave to another club now as that would be his third team this season, but that’s not the case as he was never registered for Pirates and never played any matches.”

Prior to joining Highlands, Hlongwa had two successful loan spells in KwaZulu-Natal with Real Kings in Mzansi's second tier league, during the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons respectively.
Usuthu are keen on replacing former Pirates defender Tshepo Gumede, who recently parted ways with the club, and is believed to have started training at Cape Town City.
