It might appear that Orlando Pirates could be edging closer to signing arguably the top performer from the GladAfrica Championship this season, Moeketsi Makhanya, after the Soweto giants hosted his club JDR Stars this week.
As reported by the Siya crew, Pirates played a friendly match on Tuesday against JDR as part of their preparations for Saturday’s Absa Premiership clash against Baroka FC.

Having emerged as the most sought-after player from Mzansi's second tier league as he continues to shine for JDR, Makhanya has had the Absa Premiership’s big guns keen on his services, according to sources.
In edition 1151 of Soccer Laduma, it was reported that Kaizer Chiefs have joined the race for the services of the highly-rated winger, while both Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to be also keen on the 24-year-old.

Apart from using the JDR match to prepare for Baroka clash, it would seem that Pirates also wanted to have a closer look at Makhanya, and to possibly negotiate for his signing.
Last season, during JDR’s ABC Motsepe League campaign, Makhanya scored more than 20 goals, before finishing the play-offs as the Player of the Tournament.
So far this season, Makhanya has scored seven goals including his recent hat-trick against Jomo Cosmos.
The left winger has provided five assists for the team’s other goals in the side's promotion-chasing campaign.
