There have been fresh concerns in the Orlando Pirates camp as the team is set to return to league action with a crucial match this afternoon.
After picking up only two points from a possible nine in their last three matches, Pirates are in serious need of getting back to winning to improve their position on the log and increase their chances of challenging for the league title.
Following successive draws against Cape Town City and Maritzburg United respectively, after their 2-0 loss against Mamelodi Sundowns last month, the Buccaneers are aware of the importance of having to go for three points when they welcome Royal AM in Orlando later today.
After being without some of their key players for some time, including Thembinkosi Lorch, Richard Ofori, Innocent Maela and Zakhele Lepasa among others, Bucs have confirmed having goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands and striker Tshegofatso Mabasa doubtful for the Royal AM clash.
“There has been some progress on the injury front, with some players in the Buccaneers’ long injury list nearing a return to action. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands and striker Tshegofatso Mabasa are among the latest injury concerns in the camp,” Pirates confirmed on the club’s official website.
In the Confederation Cup match against Congolese side CSDM Diables Noirs on Sunday, young Kopano Thuntsane deputised for Siyabonga Mpontshane in the absence of both Ofori and Sandilands.
Meanwhile, after missing the Confederation Cup match, Nigerian defender Olisa Ndah is set to return for Bucs who have moved down to seventh position on the DStv Premiership log after winning only two of their seven matches so far in the 2021/22 season.
