Bucs Further Trim Squad, Defender Exit Confirmed

Orlando Pirates have confirmed that another player has been released by the club ahead of the new season.

The Buccaneers have confirmed that the club has parted ways with Brazilian defender Caio Marcelo, who refused to be part of a deal to join Chippa United for the 2018/19 season.

The Soweto giants had initially reported last month that Marcelo would be on his way to Chippa with Gladwin Shitolo, Phetso Maphanga and Diamond Thopola, after an agreement was reached with the Eastern Cape club.

However, the Brazilian defender objected the move to the Port Elizabeth outfit, and the Buccaneers have now confirmed that and offered an explaination.

"Orlando Pirates Football Club has parted ways with Caio Marcelo. The Club has agreed to release the player as per his request," confirmed Pirates on the club's official website.

"Marcelo had submitted a request in writing citing home sickness and inability to adjust to his new surroundings as reasons to want to go back to Brazil.

"The Club has since acceded to Mr Marcelo's request having spoken to the player and his father. We would like to wish him the best in his future endeavours," confirmed the Buccaneers.

As reported by the Siya crew, Shitolo has also not returned to the Eastern Cape to join Clinton Larsen and the team for the new season.
