Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer has been questioned for his tactics after his team dropped points against Swallows FC and failed to reduce the gap at the top of the log.
Having started the match with Paseka Mako at left-back, ahead of Innocent Maela, who's a regular in that position, Zinnbauer introduced the Bafana Bafana international in the dying stages of the match.
Furthermore, in what looked like the German tactician was trying to defend the slim 1-0 lead, he also brought on Bongani Sam and ended up with three left-backs on the park after taking off Deon Hotto and Thembinkosi Lorch.
However, the coach’s tactics didn’t work out as planned as Swallows equalised right at the death to steal a point and maintain their unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership.
Former Pirates left-back Abednigo Netshiozwi says Zinnbauer should admit that he made a mistake with his substitutions.
“I think he wanted to protect his back four, you know coaches don’t work in the same way. But he also knows that he made a blunder by playing with three left-backs and that’s why the game ended in a draw. It’s time for him to go back to the drawing board and work on fixing the mistakes,” said Netshiozwi.
