In this week’s edition 1205 of Soccer Laduma the crew revealed that all indications are that the club have made a U-turn on ‘Figo’s’ future at the club and are set to take up the one year option on his contract, which is set to expire in June 2021.
Sources in the know have indicated to the crew that the 31-year-old’s influence in the Bucs dressing room, as well as his hard work on the field, is what prompted the decision from Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer, who has been full of praise for the former Jomo Cosmos man.
In addition, the midfielder’s contract with the Buccaneers is nearing the last six months, with the information being made available to the Siya crew indicating that it will expire on June 30, 2021. This would allow him to sign a pre-contract with a team of his choice this month, but it appears that Pirates have made a complete U-turn on Figo.
Having made just 12 appearances last season, it is apparent that Figo’s fortunes have changed for the better, with the midfielder having made six appearances already this campaign.

As is the case with most PSL teams, Pirates have a congested January schedule.
Swallows FC, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, Black Leopards, Golden Arrows and Maritzburg United all lie in wait for the Buccaneers and these fixtures could prove vital for Mntambo.
The attacking midfielder will be hoping to stake his claim and will be fighting for Pirates to not only exercise the option on his current deal but offer him a new and improved deal in the process.
