Orlando Pirates talisman Thembinkosi Lorch, who is also the Premier Soccer League’s reigning Footballer of the Year, faced the media for the first time since a potential move abroad failed to materialise right up until the final days of the transfer window.
The soft-spoken Buccaneers attacker did not deflect, speaking out about why he did not leave the club amid reports of interest from Belgium and France.
Siya sources had indicated that Percy Tau’s former and current clubs – Royal Union Saint-Gilloise and Club Brugge – were keen, as well as two more French Ligue 1 outfits in Dijon Football Cote d’Or and Toulouse FC.
“I had offers from clubs overseas, but I think the offers were not good for both the team and me. I have a contract with Pirates and I have to focus and play as well as do my best,” Lorch confirmed to the media on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bafana Bafana international argued that he has no point to prove, though he has left the door open for anything to happen in the near future.
“I have had some coaches telling me that I need to score more goals and things like that, but I feel I have done my part. I don’t have to prove (anything) to anyone. I just have to play my football and help the team to win games,” said Lorch.
