Figo Rubs Salt In Chiefs’ Wounds

Linda Mntambo, the man who put the final nail in the Kaizer Chiefs coffin, opened up on his side’s game plan, and how it worked to perfection on the day.

Not only did Mntambo’s counter attack goal seal a 5-0 aggregate win for Orlando Pirates over their longstanding rivals in the MTN8 second leg semi-final, it also ensured the club’s passage to the final.

Speaking to Bucs' social media channels after the game, the man nicknamed Figo said it was about finishing the job they had started at the Orlando stadium just over a week ago.

“Today was a game, you know, looking at the first leg, scoring three goals. We had to come in today and make sure that we kill them and not give away a goal and give them hope to come back into the game. So I think the boys did well to maintain and absorb the pressure that Chiefs was throwing at us,” Figo said.

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old credited Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer, who masterminded his team’s second goal at the FNB Stadium.

“In the second half it was just obvious. The coach told us in the change rooms that we need to go out there and play our normal football and make sure that when we get a counter attack, we get a goal,” Mntambo added.

His sentiments were echoed by Deon Hotto, who walked away with the Man of the Match award, following the vital role he played for Buccaneers.

“We knew when we came to this match it was going to be a difficult game, since the last time we met them when it was a 3-0, so we came here with the mentality (that) we (were) going to take the game to them, not waiting for them to bring the game to us,” Hotto said.

Pirates will face Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN8 final on December 12.
