As he will be heading back to Orlando Pirates in preparation of next season, defender Justice Chabalala will be leaving Bloemfontein Celtic an improved player and having achieved so much in the short period of time with the team.
Since joining Celtic on loan from Pirates in January, Chabalala has enjoyed regular game time, missing only two matches in the league – with one of them owing to suspension while he was an unused substitue for the other – as he contributed to the Mangaung outfit finishing in the top eight on the log.
However, it is the incredible record of starts in the Nedbank Cup that the 28-year-old is taking to the final of the prestigious competition against Mamelodi Sundowns at the Orlando Stadium tonight which is standing out for the defender.
Chabalala is the only player to have started in all the matches so far in the competition from the two teams going to the final, as he helped Siwelele to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup – a feat achieved for the first time in the club’s history.
The three other players that have played in all the matches in this year’s Nedbank Cup from Celtic and Sundowns are Lebohang Maboe – though the 25-year-old’s appearance in the first match of the competition was through coming on as substitute – and Lyle Lakay with two starts and two substitute appearances, as well as Celtic striker Ndumiso Mabena who has also made two starts and two substitute appearances.
With Chabalala’s camp having already confirmed that the Giyani-born player will be returning to Pirates, the ex-Free State Stars player will hope to get a chance to compete under Josef Zinnabuer in his star-studded team.
