Gone! JZ Resigns As Pirates Head Coach

Orlando Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer has stepped down from his position as the club's head coach!

In a statement on the club's website, Pirates confirmed that Zinnbauer has on Monday, tendered his resignation, leaving the club after two and a half seasons.

In a brief statement addressed to the club Chairman Irvin Khoza and the club's ardent fans, the coach had cited personal reasons for his departure from the Bucs hot seat.

“I would like to thank the Chairman and management for the opportunity they have given me. Unfortunately, my time at the Club has come to an end. I have enjoyed my time here and would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the supporters.

“I have spent the last two years away from my family and for this reason, I have decided to hand in my resignation. I would like to wish the Club and its supporters all the best for the future,” the statement wrote.

Zinnbauer took over the reins as Pirates head coach in December 2019, which sparked an immediate turnaround in the club's fortunes, as they finished in fifth place in the DStv Premiership.

In his first full season, Zinnbauer managed to end the club's six-year trophy drought, delivering the MTN8 trophy in December last year. He had also taken the club to the quarter-final of the CAF Confederations Cup.

Zinnbauer exits the club with an impressive record of 35 wins, 20 draws and 13 losses in his 68 matches in charge of the Soweto giants.

The club is yet to announce the coach's replacement, but in assistant coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids, the club is in capable hands ahead of their league opener against Stellenbosch FC this weekend.
