Yet another coach has been linked to the Orlando Pirates job, though Siya sources have informed the crew there are currently no plans to sack Josef Zinnbauer.
Welshman Cameron Toshack is understood to be on the Buccaneers’ radar should the club hierarchy decide to part ways with their incumbent given there’s been a bit of displeasure with how the 2020/21 season turned out overall.
Zinnbauer guided Pirates to third place in the DStv Premiership, finishing an incredible 17 points behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns and missing out on a CAF Champions League spot to AmaZulu, who were runners-up.
Although the German coach managed to end the club’s six-year trophy drought in December last year with the MTN8 title, the idea that Usuthu, Golden Arrows and Swallows were much closer to Downs in the title run-in would have rubbed both supporters and management up the wrong way given the investment at the start of the campaign.
Toshack, 51, is without a job at the moment, and has previously coached the Swansea City junior teams as well as Pafos FC in Cyprus.
His time at Swansea coincides with that of former Pirates goalkeeper coach Andrew Sparkes, who has been working for English Premier League outfit Southampton since July 2019 after his spell with the Buccaneers came to an end.
Indications are that Pirates would likely make a coaching change only if the club were presented with a suitable candidate, whether that is Toshack remains to be seen.
The Siya crew has previously reported that Adel Amrouche, the Botswana national team coach, and Simba SC’s Didier Gomes have been offered to the Buccaneers as possible solutions, though nothing has come out of that to date.
Zinnbauer still has a year remaining on his contract with Pirates having signed a two-and-a-half-year contract in December 2019 when he was appointed to take over from Rulani Mokwena, the interim coach after Micho Sredojevic had quit abruptly four months earlier.
Given that Srejojevic was hired two weeks before the 2017/18 season to take over from Kjell Jonevret, you can't rule out Zinnabuer also making way!
