With Orlando Pirates reaching the business end of their continental and domestic schedule, their coach Josef Zinnbauer has provided a fitness update on a few of the club’s injured stars.
Pirates suffered a 3-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday, their third loss to the Brazilians this season. In his post-match television interview, Buccaneers coach Zinnbauer bemoaned the absence of some of his key players in their loss at the Orlando Stadium, and now the coach has given an in-depth update on the fitness of his star players.
“Yeah, first Gaba (Mhango) was injured the whole week, he was here last week he did not travel with us and we are careful because we need him for the next games and he comes back with this performance because we have no training, but he is always working with the fitness coaches,” Zinnbauer told Journalists.
“(Terrence) Dzvukamanja has gone to the second specialist and now we are waiting to hear what exactly is wrong with him. He always has pain in his ankle, remember he got a knock against Al Ahli Benghazi on his other leg and now we have to wait. He cannot pass a ball as he always experiences pain, and this is why we have to wait and hear what the specialist says. He is also an experienced player that we need, especially in such times and games.
“(Thembinkosi) Lorch, I think he can start training with the team tomorrow or on Tuesday. I hope we get a test in the morning and then he comes back to us. Hopefully, he’s available for us in the next game or in the next games, we need the player. I also hope (Happy) is also ready, but he can’t play long balls, he feels pain and that is the problem. He is also my club captain, and we need the experience that he has now. We have another long list of small problems. Yes, maybe Lorch and Dzvukamanja is big, but the others are small and its possible.
“(Thabang) Monare yesterday, he was on the field, (but) when he took a shot, he felt pain and it’s not possible, we tried and tried, we had a late fitness test in the morning, but this was not possible, or we could lose him for the next games,” he added.
Pirates will look to return to winning ways when they take on struggling Black Leopards at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.
