Legend's Warning To Mhango: Don't Mess It Up!

After finally making his return to Orlando Pirates’ matchday squads following a long absence, Gabadinho Mhango has been advised by a club legend on what he should do to revive his career and to help the team going forward.

Mhango missed 12 consecutive matches for the Buccaneers and was affected on his progress by off-field issues.

The Malawian international was dropped from the Flames squad that competed in the World Cup qualifiers during the recent FIFA international break, with off-the-field concerns and the player's apparent loss of form contributing to the decision.

Against Liberia’s LPRC Oilers in the additional preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup match on the weekend, Mhango finally made his way into Bucs’ matchday squad and was a second half substitute as the Soweto giants claimed a 2-0 victory and put themselves in a good position to qualify for the group stages of the continental competition.

Former Pirates striker Bruce Ramokgadi has advised the 29-year-old to focus on the task at hand and to forget about getting himself involved in unnecessary off-field problems.

“Unfortunately, he has been off form and hadn’t been scoring goals (before his off-the-field issues). But Mhango is a very good striker and can still do well for Pirates if he can put his head down and focus on playing football. We understand fully that soccer players are also human beings, but they should stop focusing more on the off the field stuff and focus on playing. They should try to eliminate their off-field problems because football is a short-term career and should just play football which is what we know them for. You can always do whatever you want that has got nothing to do with football when you have retired from the game. One will have all the time in the world when you have retired from the game,” said Ramokgadi.
