South African football fans, according to title-winning coach Gavin Hunt, could see the very best of Thamsanqa Gabuza now that he’s switched clubs.
The burly striker has moved to SuperSport United after six years at Orlando Pirates and enduring a love-hate relationship with the club supporters. It was a surprise move, Gabuza joining Matsatsantsa along with Kudakwashe Mahachi as confirmed by the Buccaneers late last month.
But many will argue the writing was on the wall given the forward did not score a single goal in 17 matches last season.
“I think Gabuza is highly underrated,” Hunt told the Siya crew.
“I think he’s at a better club now and won’t get all the hammering from the media and the fans. He is a good signing, along with Mahachi. I think they will do well for SuperSport this coming season.”
Hunt has also made his own signings which he confirmed to the Siya crew on Monday in defenders Zitha Macheke, Siyanda Zwane as well as winger Sameehg Doutie, to name a few. And hopes they have an impact.
Wits begin their Absa Premiership campaign on August 3 and travel to face AmaZulu at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
