This time last year there were calls for Thembinkosi Lorch to be in the running for the Absa Premiership Player of the Season, but now, a year on, it's a different ball game for the Orlando Pirates player...
Lorch had a stellar 2018/19 campaign has he led from the front at Pirates, scoring a number of important goals across the course of the season as the Buccaneers pushed Mamelodi Sundowns all the way and only narrowly missed out on the league title.
Now though, with the league suspended due to the Coronavirus outbreak, it’s been a very different season for the Bafana Bafana international, who is currently more than two months without a league goal to his name.
While the likes of Gabadinho Mhango (14) and Tshegofatso Mabasa (6) have heavily outscored Lorch in 2019/20, the 26-year-old is enduring his toughest season since his first campaign in Pirates colours - since joining them back in 2017.
After 23 league games this season, Lorch has played 17 of them, getting just one goal and one assist, while at the same point last season – also after 23 league games – the attacker was on five goals and four assists after the 20 matches that he had played.
In terms of goalscoring, Lorch hasn’t scored less than four goals in any of the last six seasons at Maluti FET College, Chippa United and with Bucs, but that may be set to change if things don’t improve for the reigning Absa Premiership Player of the Season.
What have you thought of Lorch’s season so far?
