Orlando Pirates team captain, Happy Jele admitted that things stayed more or less the same at the club following Milutin Sredojevic’s departure.
The Serbian head coach stepped down from the helm at Pirates unexpectedly last month, where the Bucs subsequently confirmed that Rulani Mokwena will lead the charges going forward.
However, Pirates have been struggling to find their form in the new season, despite an impressive 3-1 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic in their opening Absa Premiership fixture.
In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, Jele opened up about what the circumstances have been like ever since Coach Micho’s departure.
“It is quite the same because the three coaches worked very well together. Like I said, when someone departs, it becomes difficult, but we have to move on with the people who are left behind. You just try to keep on doing the things you were doing,” he said.
“With the support we’ve been getting from coach Davids and coach Mokwena, the whole technical team, management and supporters, it has been great. We’ve been doing good, training and preparing for games well. It shows that we didn’t change much and all we need to do is continue to support our coaches so that we can start doing well.
“Look, it was a surprise, it was a surprise to us as players because we never knew that the coach was leaving, especially at this stage of the season and before such a game. Having said that, we needed to soldier on and we wish coach Micho all the best for the future. He decided to go because of personal reasons and we have to respect that. For us, we just have to soldier on and keep going for the team,” Jele added.
