Former Malawian international Esau Kanyenda feels there is no better time for Gabadinho Mhango to make a move to Europe, following an impressive Africa Cup of Nations campaign with Malawi.
Mhango was in fine form for the Flames as they made history by reaching the knockout stages of the competition for the first time. Mhango banged in three goals and one of them was an absolute pile driver in the last 16 clash against Morocco on Tuesday night, though it was not enough to send his country through to the quarterfinals.
The 29-year-old Mhango, who has made just six appearances in all competitions for Pirates this season, is due to return to South Africa this week and Kanyenda feels that the player should make a move to Europe this year, probably after the end of this campaign.
Kanyenda himself got an opportunity to play in Europe, when he left Jomo Cosmos in 2003 to go play for FC Rostov in Russia.
"I think he still has a chance to go to Europe and I think the time is right now. If he does not go to Europe this year, I think it will be bad for him. This is the best time for Mhango to go to Europe. He is one of the best strikers. When he is focused, you can see that there is a top player there. He has shown people that he is still the Gaba that we know, although at Pirates no one was giving him a chance. Even at Pirates, they will start thinking that Gaba needs to start playing," Kanyenda told the Siya crew.
"The goal he scored can be one of the best goals that has been scored at the AFCON tournament. It's one of the best goals I've ever seen.
