Magents: When Players Don't Perform, We Blame Coaches

Orlando Pirates legend Edward Motale wants players to be held accountable for their actions, and has defended coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids.

The Buccaneers have had a slow start to the season and despite doing well in the CAF Confederation Cup, supporters are not impressed by the current technical team.

Magents has spoken out in defence of the coaching duo, stating that the South African football community is unfair in their opinions.

"I think these current coaches are still okay, I always say, local is lekker. All we need to do is to give them a chance, they've been in charge for six to seven games in the league," Motale said, speaking to media in KZN.

"I don't want to talk about colour but the reality is that whenever it is a white coach, we become patient. Why (don't) our black coaches get the same treatment? Let's give them a fair chance.

"I believe both coaches did well individually at Golden Arrows and Maritzburg United, so let's give them a chance. We as South Africans from spectators and media need to be fair on local coaches."

With pressure on coaches, Motale believes it is about time players also get same the treatment as coaches.

"Even the players... Our best players give one good game and go party, then when they are no longer performing, we blame coaches. Players let coaches down and they don't get punished."

"An example, one was reportedly out at a party and did not pay his bill, then you have another one arrested, then we expect a team to do well when players are misbehaving. Sometimes we need to be fair and give coaches fair chances," he added.
