Bucs Thrash Leopards To Move Fourth

DStv Premiership

Result: Orlando Pirates 3-0 Black Leopards

Date: 06 May 2021

Venue: Orlando Stadium

Orlando Pirates returned to winning ways in the DStv Premiership with a 3-0 win over bottom-side Black Leopards on Thursday evening.

Pirates made five changes from the 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns, as Bongani Sam, Wayde Jooste, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Kabelo Dlamini and Nkanyiso Zungu were all given recalls..

The hosts had a bright start, creating early chances as the returning Joose and Deon Hotto both came close to giving them the lead inside the first five minutes.

Mabasa had a big chance to break the deadlock for Josef Zinnbauer's charges just before the half-hour mark after getting on the end of Jooste's cross, but the Pirates striker blazed over with only the Leopards shot-stopper Jonas Mendes to beat.

It was one-way traffic in the first half and Pirates should have been ahead before the break, as Dlamini missed the far post by a whisker before Thulani Hlatshwayo saw his glancing header sail wide with Mendes flat-footed.

Here are 22 players who failed to live up to expectations at Pirates:

Zinnbauer's troops made a good start to the second stanza as Mabasa broke the deadlock two minutes after the break with a sweeping tap-in from Jooste's cross.

Roderick Kabwe came close to snatching the equaliser for Lidoda Duvha two minutes later with a header that looped over shot-stopper Wayne Sandilands at the back post but Hlatshwayo made the clearance.

Mabasa doubled Pirates' lead in the 67th minute with a low strike that found the bottom corner after Mendes had saved his initial header.

That was to be Mabasa's last involvement as he was replaced by Gabadinho Mhango, while Leopards brought on Tumelo Khutlang came on for Kabwe while Themba Ndlovu replaced Sanele Mathenjwa.

Mhango wrapped up the win for the Buccaneers in the last four minutes with a powerful drive close range, as Zinnbauer's leapfrogged Swallows into fourth on the log while Leopards remain six points behind 15th-placed Chippa United at the bottom.
