DStv Premiership

Result: Golden Arrows 2-0 Orlando Pirates

Date: 02 February 2021

Venue: Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium

Orlando Pirates were unable to build on their Soweto derby win after suffering a 2-0 loss to Golden Arrows on Tuesday evening.

Pirates made four changes from the win over Kaizer Chiefs, as Innocent Maela and Paseka Mako were recalled while Siphesihle Ndlovu earned a rare start alongside budding youngster Azola Tshobeni.

Abafana Bes'thende had the first real chance in the tenth minute as Knox Mutizwa had space to curl a strike at goal but he was denied by shot-stopper Richard Ofori.

With the game opening up Mako came close to breaking the deadlock for the Buccaneers on the half-hour mark with a header inside the box that was saved by goalkeeper Sifiso Mlungwana.

Arrows eventually broke the deadlock five minutes from the break after Pule Mmodi unleashed a strike from a tight angle to beat Ofori in the bottom corner after the hosts took a quick throw-in, although replays showed there were two balls on the pitch at the same time

Deon Hotto came close to equalising for Josef Zinnbauer's charges on the stroke of half-time with a dipping strike from from a free-kick but Mlungwana was on hand to make the save.

After pushing for an equaliser, Pirates were were awarded a penalty on the hour-mark after Thabani Zuke handled a ball inside the box but they could not capitalise, as Thembinkosi Lorch sent his spot-kick over the bar.

Arrows caught the Buccaneers on a counter-attack seven minutes as Mmodi completed his bracw with a low strike that Ofori was unable to keep out.

Zinnbauer's men were probing to get back into the game in the latter stages, but Arrows did well to furtrate the Pirates attackers to hold on for three points and a clean sheet.
