Orlando Pirates are expected to welcome a new striker at the club ahead of next season, the Siya crew has been informed.
Indications are that the Buccaneers have agreed a deal in principle with Free State Stars for the signing of Ea Lla Koto’s top goal scorer Monnapule Saleng.
Pirates have been chasing the 23-year-old for some time now and monitoring his form in the GladAfrica Championship closely.
With Stars missing out on promotion to the DStv Premiership, having finished fifth and gearing to try again next season, the Siya crew has been led to believe the Bethlehem-based outfit will do so without their top marksman.
It’s not yet been confirmed by either club what the terms of the deal are, but Siya sources indicated that Saleng is expected to put pen to paper and move to Gauteng.
He will join a long list of quality players that have made the big transfer from Stars to Pirates over the years (see gallery above) and will hope to follow in their footsteps.
Saleng finished as the Golden Boot winner in the second tier of SA football, scoring 13 goals in 29 matches as Stars pushed for promotion.
That’s three goals shy of Bradley Grobler’s 16 in the DStv Premiership.
