Orlando Pirates defender Bongani Sam has opened up on his first goal for the club in their one-all draw against TS Galaxy in their DStv Premiership encounter on Tuesday.
The resurgent defender produced yet another Man of the Match performance for the Buccaneers and it came as no surprise when he opened his account in the famous black and white.
The 23-year-old found himself in unfamiliar territory in the Galaxy box but expertly slotted home after being teed up by Fortune Makaringe.
Sam’s goal, however, was not enough to see Bucs walk away with maximum points, but the former Highlands Park star was delighted with his goal that he has attributed to some sound advice from his coach Josef Zinnbauer.
“The game here today was hard. We are playing every two days and it’s not easy, but the boys gave their all and we got a point which is better than nothing,” Sam told Pirates’ media department after the match.
“The goal is something that we always work on at training. The coach was telling me that I should keep getting into the box and surely, I’ll get a goal so that’s what happened with the goal,” Sam said.
Now, with Kaizer Chiefs in their sights, Sam has taken away some positives from the Galaxy draw and is fired up for the highly anticipated Soweto derby.
“The positive is that we managed to get a goal and we were dominating the game and I think we are ready for the weekend,” he added.
