Thulani Hlatshwayo is on the cusp of being unveiled as an Orlando Pirates player, following the sale of Bidvest Wits. We take a look at how ‘Tyson’s’ value has increased over the last decade to make him one of the most expensive players in the PSL.
His nickname ‘Tyson’ tells you everything you need to know about the burly defender. Through the years, Hlatshwayo has gained a reputation for being tough as nails and never shying away from a challenge.
It is also this attitude along with his professionalism that has seen him don the armband for Ajax Cape Town, Bidvest Wits and Bafana Bafana.
According to the values on transfermarkt.com, through the years Hlatshwayo has also seen a dramatic increase in his market values. Having made his debut as a 19-year-old for the Urban Warriors back in 2009, the man from Soweto was valued at €50 000 (±R988 000)
Before signing for Wits in 2014, a 24-year-old Hlatshwayo saw a huge increase in his value as it spiked to the €475 000 (±R9,3m )
After six successful years with the Clever Boys, Tyson’s stock continued to rise as he added more accolades to his trophy cabinet which included the Telkom Knockout, MTN8 as well as the Absa Premiership.
With Bidvest Wits now ceasing to exist and Tyson closing in on a dream move to The Buccaneers, his current market value stands at €1 million (±R19,7m )
In Hlatshwayo, Pirates do not only gain a natural-born leader, but he brings aerial presence, tactical awareness and goals. This season alone, Hlatshwayo has chipped in with five goals, making him the complete defender.
Pirates are set to announce the arrival of both Hlatshwayo and Deon Hotto in the coming days.
